Meet the Team
Attorneys Who Fight For You

Most law firms introduce their attorneys with a headshot and a list of bar admissions. We think you deserve more than that.

The background and experience of the attorney standing next to you in court is the single most important variable in how your case turns out.

Willis Law Firm is a team of five attorneys with more than 50 years of combined DUI and criminal defense experience. Three of us are former public defenders. One of us is a former Gwinnett County State Court DUI prosecutor. Our lead attorney has argued before the United States Supreme Court. This is not an ordinary firm, and these are not ordinary credentials.

Here is what that combination means for you: we have worked inside the criminal justice system from every angle. We know how police build DUI cases because we were once on that side of the courtroom. We know what prosecutors look for when evaluating whether a case is worth fighting because one of our own attorneys made those exact decisions in Gwinnett County State Court. And we know how to take a case all the way to the highest court in the country if that is what it takes.

GREG WILLIS — Founder & Lead Attorney

Background

Greg Willis founded Willis Law Firm after beginning his legal career as a public defender — working on the front lines of Georgia’s criminal justice system, representing defendants who had no one else in their corner. That experience taught him how the government builds its cases, where the vulnerabilities are, and how aggressive advocacy from the very first moment of a case changes its outcome.

Over three decades in practice, Greg has become the most decorated DUI defense attorney in Georgia. He has argued DUI cases in the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court — where he has filed multiple petitions and secured a unanimous victory in McElrath v. Georgia (2024) as amicus counsel. His 2019 Georgia Supreme Court win struck down Georgia’s DUI implied consent statutes as unconstitutional. His 2026 Manning Order from Cobb County State Court declared O.C.G.A. § 40-6-392(d) unconstitutional as applied under the Fourth Amendment.

He currently serves as President of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA) — the national organization for DUI defense attorneys — and has earned 13 consecutive Georgia Super Lawyer designations in DUI defense (2014–2026). He is the only Georgia DUI attorney with active petitions before the United States Supreme Court.

Alex Grace — Attorney

Background

Before joining Willis Law Firm, Alex Grace prosecuted DUI cases in Gwinnett County State Court — one of the busiest DUI prosecution venues in Georgia. Alex evaluated DUI evidence, decided which cases to take to trial, negotiated with defense attorneys, and stood in front of juries arguing that defendants were guilty. Now Alex does the opposite — with all of that inside knowledge working entirely in your favor.

Having a former DUI prosecutor on your defense team is a structural advantage that most firms cannot offer. Alex knows exactly how Gwinnett County State Court prosecutors think, what evidence they consider strong versus weak, what arguments move them, and how they prepare for trial. That knowledge changes the dynamics of plea negotiations and trial strategy in ways that only someone who has stood on the prosecution side can fully appreciate.

Alex is a key member of Willis Law Firm’s DUI defense team across all jurisdictions in the Atlanta metropolitan area, with particular depth in Gwinnett County matters.

Julia Holley — Attorney

Background

Julia Holley’s career in criminal defense began as a public defender — representing people at their most vulnerable, in courtrooms where the stakes were high and resources were limited.

Public defense work is among the most demanding in the legal profession: it requires fast, thorough case analysis, aggressive advocacy, and the ability to find winning arguments in cases that appear, on the surface, to be stacked against the defendant.

Julia brings that same intensity and resourcefulness to her work at Willis Law Firm.

Along with that, she is a is a skilled litigator with deep experience in DUI and criminal defense.

She brings the public defender’s instinct — fight for your client, question everything the government presents, and never accept a bad outcome without exhausting every available defense.

Jake Shapiro — Attorney

Background

Jake Shapiro spent his early legal career as a public defender, building the kind of courtroom experience that only comes from trying cases — not studying them. Public defenders try more cases in a year than most private attorneys try in a decade.

That volume of real-world litigation experience produces attorneys who are comfortable in the courtroom, skilled at cross-examination, and completely at ease in front of a judge or jury.

At Willis Law Firm, Jake applies that trial-tested experience to DUI and criminal defense cases throughout metro Atlanta.

He is a skilled advocate who understands both the procedural mechanics of Georgia DUI cases and the human stakes involved for every client who walks through the door.
