Don’t Go With the Cheap Attorney

I’m often asked why someone shouldn’t simply hire the cheapest DUI lawyer available — especially one who doesn’t focus heavily on DUI defense, isn’t prepared to go to trial, or isn’t willing to pursue an appeal if necessary.

The answer is simple: the long-term consequences of a DUI conviction can be significant.

Too often, I meet with people who initially hired another attorney and were told there was no way to win their case — without a thorough review of the evidence or a serious defense strategy. I also speak with individuals after they’ve already been convicted, asking whether anything can be done on appeal. At that point, the process becomes more difficult and more expensive.

A DUI conviction can impact far more than just your driving privileges. It can affect your employment, professional licensing, and even immigration status. For some people, it can mean losing a job or limiting future opportunities.

DUI defense requires a willingness to challenge the evidence, take a case to trial when necessary, and pursue appellate review if errors occur.
